Documentary Panel Presentation (9/17/09)
Producer/Director Lauren DeAngelis and Cinematographer Joe Bohannon are participating in a presentation and panel discussion about documentary filmmaking at the Newseum in Washington, DC. Led by award-winning American University Professor Chris Palmer, "Films That Make a Difference" also features SOC alumnae Laura Waters Hinson, who won a Student Academy Award in 2008. Clips of A Place to Land and Hinson's film will be shown at event on October 23. For more information, see AU's website.

A Place to Land Wins Bronze Student Academy Award (6/13/09)
Producer Lauren DeAngelis and cinematographer Joe Bohannon attended the awards ceremony and a week of industry events in Los Angeles. Director John Landis presented the awards in the Documentary category. This marks the second year in a row that an American University student has taken home this prestigious award. In 2008, Laura Waters Hinson was awarded the gold medal in the Documentary category for her film, As We Forgive.

Director of Photography Joe Bohannon Appears on NBC (6/8/09)
NBC News' Philadelphia affiliate, WCAU, recently featured APTL crew member Joe Bohannon in a news spot about the film. Bohannon, who did all camera work for the film, discusses the plight of parrots in captivity alongside two of the film's stars -- Liz Wilson, a Philadelphia-area local, and her longtime companion Sam (a macaw).

A Place to Land to Screen at Local Film Festival (6/5/09)
A Place to Land has been chosen as one of a few select films to screen at the first annual Del Ray FilmFest at FireFlies. The festival aims to bring a piece of the independent film circuit to the local community. Screenings occur on Sunday nights throughout the month of June. All screenings are free and often the filmmakers themselves will be present for Q&A sessions. Phoenix Landing volunteer Ruth Fahrmeier will bring her pet macaw, Lady Scarlett, and answer questions and educate the audience on parrots. This event is a must for anyone who has yet to see the film, or for anyone interested in parrots! See the Screenings page for details.

A Place to Land Wins National Student Academy Award (5/15/09)
We are thrilled to announce that A Place to Land has won a national Student Academy Award! It's one of three winning films in the Documentary category. The winning filmmakers will attend a week of industry events culminating in an awards ceremony. Gold, Silver and Bronze awards (along with cash prizes) will be announced at the ceremony in Beverly Hills on June 13, 2009. The other two Documentary winners are both from Columbia University.

A Place to Land is Regional Finalist in Student Academy Awards (4/24/09)
A Place to Land is one of 36 films selected as finalists in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ 36th Annual Student Academy Awards competition. The film is one of nine finalists in the Documentary category from its region, which also includes much of the East coast. Finalists were chosen from a record nearly 600 entries. Academy members will view these films at special screenings and vote to select the winners. Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal awards, along with cash prizes, will be presented at the Student Academy Awards ceremony in mid-June.

A Place to Land Premieres at American Conservation Film Festival (11/8/08)
On Nov. 8, A Place to Land made its worldwide premiere at the American Conservation Film Festival in Shepherdstown, West Va. With an emphasis on the intersection between people and the environment, ACFF provides a venue to explore these issues and bring them back to our own lives, through high-quality films and discussions with filmmakers and other experts. Following the film's screening, Director/Producer Lauren DeAngelis answered audience questions. One of the film's stars, Ruth Fahrmeier was also on hand with her beautiful adopted parrot, Lady Scarlet Coconut, to answer questions about her organization, Phoenix Landing. More than 20 other conservation films also screened during the three-day festival.
